While many college football fans remember Coach Mike Leach and his pass-happy offense, Coach Mike Gundy and his dynamic aerial assault at Oklahoma State also rank among the most memorable since the turn of the twenty-first century. Gundy's 170-90 record over 21 seasons highlights his consistent success and impact on college football, making him a notable figure for fans and college football historians alike. In 2011, he won the Big 12 Championship and was named the Eddie Robinson Coach of the Year. The most valuable player on the Cowboys in that remarkable campaign was Consensus All-American Justin Blackmon, who is the fourth receiver to be enshrined into the College Fantasy Football Hall of Fame.
During Blackmon’s tenure on campus, the Cowboys posted a 32-7 record and won two bowl games while ranking in the top 20 in the final polls twice (2010 and 2011). His dominance as a playmaker, including winning the Biletnikoff Award twice, made him a fantasy football legend. Blackmon's unanimous All-American and All-Big 12 First Team honors underscore his elite status, which college fantasy football players value highly. In 2010, Blackmon became the first receiver in the Big 12 to capture the Offensive Player of the Year honors in the Conference. He corralled 111 passes for a career-high 1,782 yards, averaging 16.1 ypc, and scored 20 times. He also finished fifth in the Heisman voting. As a junior the next season, the Pokes’ receiver recorded a career-best 122 receptions for 1,522 yards and 18 touchdowns.
When he finished his college career, Blackmon stood atop the Oklahoma State record books (and still does) with 253 catches for 3,564 yards and 40 touchdowns. His remarkable consistency, including a 14-game streak of at least 100 yards and 1 touchdown, and reaching the end zone at least once in 25 of 38 career games, should evoke admiration and awe among college fantasy football coaches, underscoring his lasting legacy in college football history.
