"I don't know that I'll ever coach another player like Brock (Bowers)...He's just different. He's got a great heart. He's very diligent about his own habits...He comes to every meal. (Brock) is there every time on time. He's a warrior,"
Georgia Coach Kirby Smart stated in 2023.
Throughout my life, Georgia has recruited and relied on a remarkable group of running backs who dominated games on Saturdays and found success in the NFL. In 2021 and 2022, the Bulldogs achieved back-to-back National Championships, bolstered by one of the greatest defenses in college football history. In Athens, GA, the passing game has taken a back seat, and few quarterbacks or wide receivers have made a significant fantasy football impact. However, with the enrollment of Brock Bowers at Georgia, the tight end position has been redefined in college fantasy football.
How exceptional was Brock Bowers as a fantasy tight end? As a true freshman in 2021, Bowers had an impressive debut, recording 56 receptions for 882 yards and 13 touchdowns, which marked a career best. He started 13 of the 15 games for the Bulldogs and finished the season as the team's leading receiver. His outstanding performance earned him a spot on the SEC First Team, as well as the Football Writers Association Freshman of the Year Award and SEC Freshman of the Year honors. In his sophomore year, Bowers had his best statistical season, with 63 catches for 942 yards and 7 touchdowns. Additionally, he carried the ball 9 times for 109 yards and scored 3 rushing touchdowns. He was again named to the All-SEC First Team and recognized as a semifinalist for the Walter Camp Player of the Year Award.
In 2023, as a junior, Bowers received the Ozzie Newsome Award, recognizing him as the best tight end in college fantasy football. He recorded 56 receptions for 714 yards and six touchdowns, demonstrating his exceptional talent and impact in CFF. Bowers also made history by becoming the first player to win the John Mackey Award in consecutive years. He earned All-America first-team honors in both 2022 and 2023, with a unanimous selection in 2023. Alongside Herschel Walker and David Pollack, Bowers is one of only three players to achieve All-America honors three times while playing for the Bulldogs.
In the school's history, Bowers ranks third in receptions with 175, fifth in receiving yards with 2,538, and second in receiving touchdowns with 26. Since the start of the century, no tight end has matched the impressive numbers that Bowers has achieved, and he has now been inducted into the CFF Hall of Fame in his first year of eligibility.
